Cross Bone!

Anybody, having visited the biog on the recently revamped site, will have already peeked the tantilising early stages of this latest piece, glaring ominously from my easel. Taking three months to complete, and scaring my darling wife witless, everytime she entered my studio, its a 24" x 36" oil on canvas, and possibly one of the largest pieces I've ever done-certainly the most detailed.

Entitled 'Axiom', and continuing the theistic themes that I've been pursuing over the last six months or so, its a symbolic contemplation of religious dogma I guess, a literal stripping away of the facade to the very bone-I'm immensely proud of it, as its really quite something to behold in person.

As always, I've made a series of signed giclee prints available through my site, in a variety of formats, and I am going to be extending my range to include canvas prints over the next few months, for all the pieces currently available

Done-a second crack at the whip.

Originally slated to herald the end of my fixation with all things winged, I painted this piece in 2007, where it did the rounds at auction, but didn't reach the bin price.

So, we're tempting its fortunes again, this time with no reserve and putting it to a five day auction. Rather tellingly entitled as 'Done', and painted with oils on a 16" x 20" canvas, its available on E-Bay, from the following link:

Our holidays were very pleasantly extended this year-since we had my teenage daughter-Emma-visiting with us from the UK. Not only was it a delight and joy to spend time with my little girl again, but we got to show her around the town, whilst fullfilling my desire to get out of the studio for once, and catch an exhibit or two.

The whims of a teenage girl are not always conducive to aimlessly wandering around a succession of gallery's, but after three days of playing dutiful husband & Dad, tagging along malls, little outlet shops and thrift stores, I finally got my way, the highlight being the work of Everett Gee Jackson, at the San Diego Museum of art. An astute early adopter of the stylised work of mural artists like Diego Rivera, his art is a lovely combination of Mexican culture, whilst still being contemporary to a lot of the social & political ramifications of the time. Very inspiring, and certainly influencing future pieces.

We also found time to see Sweeny Todd, and Cloverfield-the former being the bigger hit with my crowd. A surprising,Victorian gothic, bloody burlesque spectacle, with Depp crooning Bowiesque cockneyisms.
Cloverfield on the other hand, just felt like an epileptic Godzilla-for my money, the Host is a far superior and majestic evolution on the analogous monster flick-so rent that instead.

Of course, the trip went by all too quickly, and one hopes it shalln't be long before she returns again, but its back to work for me, which just remains for me to wish you all, belatedly but sincerely, a prosperous and peaceful new year.
